Cory Aquino, former President of the Philippines, died in Manila Friday evening, July 31, 2009 (early Saturday morning Aug. 1, Eastern US time) after a 16-month battle with Colon Cancer. She was 76.

She served as the 11th president of the Philippines from 1986 to 1992. She was the first female president of the Philippines and was Asia’s first female president.
